It is not often one hears words such as “tranquility,” “seclusion,” or “intimate” associated with many things in Cabo San Lucas these days. How many places in that bustling metropolis at Land’s End can be described as “charming” or “harmonious?” Nevertheless, amid sprawling hotel development and a cacophony of nightclubs, there lies an enclave that not only epitomizes such descriptions, but in many respects surpasses them.

The Bungalows Breakfast Inn is a welcoming retreat, an inviting oasis, nestled among verdant palms with a bougainvillea-covered lattice and lush foliage, only blocks from the excitement of downtown Cabo San Lucas. Upon entering the grounds, you are immediately enveloped by the rustic ambiance of the gurgling hand-carved fountain, terra-cotta tiles, palapa roofs, extensive woodwork and Spanish colonial masonry surrounding the central pool and courtyard. It’s a sabbatical to a slower, quieter space; a quieter time reminiscent of yesteryear, when the pace of Cabo San Lucas was dictated by panga fishermen returning from the sea and the air was full of the aroma of fresh tortillas wafting from local grills.

Retreat to one of the sixteen fully-appointed rooms, which include eight one-bedroom suites, two one-bedroom deluxe suites, or six two-bedroom bungalows and be immersed in the warmth and coziness of traditional, yet elegant, Mexican decor. Your gracious hosts, Mark and Tisha, have paid meticulous attention to lighting, fabrics and texture with hand-painted sinks, wooden chests, stone, hand-blown glass and ceramic accents. Lest other creature comforts be ignored, all rooms have air-conditioning, private baths, TV, purified water and designer bedding. Don’t be surprised if it feels like home or that you’re treated like one of the family. That’s a Bungalows’ trademark.

Guests often find themselves around the pool late into the evenings enjoying the cool night air. The staff is always accommodating, friendly, efficient and ready to lend a hand or join in for a chat. It’s all part of the charm.

But don’t forget the “breakfast” part of the Bungalows Breakfast Inn. What better way to start the day than with freshly cut flowers while seated in a brick-paved breakfast nook next to a trickling fountain being served fresh-ground coffee, fruit smoothies, fresh-squeezed juices and sliced tropical fruit plates bursting with color and flavor. Each morning brings new culinary masterpieces from Chef Estella who lavishes guests with eggs benedict, pecan-peach pancakes dusted with powdered sugar, fritatas topped with tomato and basil served with black beans, fresh bread and berry jam. For anglers headed to the fishing grounds too early to enjoy Estella’s artistry, the kitchen will gladly prepare box lunches for the guests. The Bungalows can also accommodate groups of up to 50 people, making it an ideal location for weddings, reunions, corporate retreats, special group events or incentive getaways.

Shopping, watersports, world-class golf, fine dining and a happening nightlife in downtown Cabo San Lucas can be found just a few short blocks away. The action is always close at hand, but you can easily escape back to the peace and tranquility of your home at the Bungalows. Respecting those concerned with their health, the Bungalows is a 100-percent smoke-free environment. The Bungalows Breakfast Inn—it’s just what the doctor ordered!
